Victor was invited to try Alpha by his friend and coursemate at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, where he experienced a significant transformation and since started a journey to know God more.
A brief introduction about yourself
My names are Ogunrinola Victor Busayo. I am in my early twenties. I live in Mafoluku Oshodi, Lagos State, Nigeria.
I was born and brought up in a Christian home and was taught the averagely way of being a good Christian because my parents weren’t devout Christian but that didn’t stop us from attending the Church service every Sunday. We were always taking our “every Sunday dose” as a saying in Nigeria.
How will you describe your life before you tried Alpha?
Even though the church was a big part of my life growing up, I still had my challenges about faith and the church.
By the time I got to the Higher institution for my National Diploma, I became disinterested in church and stopped taking my faith seriously. I got involved with some other guys in school and started drinking.
At a point, God became someone I only talk to when I am in a difficult situation and in need of help.
How did you hear about Alpha and why did you decide to try it out?
I was told about Alpha in 2016 by a friend of mine who happens to be my course-mate in the College then, and I decided to try it out when he said it’s a Christian program that comes with visual teaching, knowing fully that it’s visual I got engulfed with it.
Besides, it usually held on Friday noon which was always free on my schedule, and it was being hosted in the hostel along with other friends in the College.
How was the experience on Alpha?
Experiencing Alpha helps reconnected me back to God with a deeper desire to know him. It was a move from a position of seeing God as just a ‘request and response machine’ to a person to develop a relationship with.
I remember on the Holy Spirit session I was in tears as the Holy Spirit was dealing with me and building a new desire for God in me.
What changes did you experience on Alpha? – you can mention them one after the other
Before attending Alpha, I used to drink but after the session on Holy Spirit, I cut off from alcohol. I went to meet my friend and told him I was going to stop drinking without anyone asking me to.
I became acquainted with God’s word and his promises. My spiritual life started picking up and I experienced real growth.
I became emboldened to talk about my faith and started encouraging other people having a problem with their “Faith in Christianity”
What do you like about Alpha?
I love the video presentation which brings people across the World together to know and discuss God. There are different people in the video, sharing their experiences also.
I also love the hospitality on Alpha, there was always food and also the freedom to share honestly about any issue
How has your Christian life been now a few years after?
It’s about four years now since that first Alpha experience and I give all thanks to Almighty God, the Alpha and Omega, my Christian life has been in very good shape, and I keep asking for more of God to dwell in me.
